از شنیدن مرگ نابهنگام ریک بسیار انوهگین شدم. میدانستم که بیمار است اما پایان او نگهانی و تکان‌دهنده بود. به فکر خانواده او هستم مخصوصا فرزندانش، جمی و گالا و همین‌طور همسرش جولیت که از روزگار قدیم آنها را میشناسم و همیشه دوستشان داشته و تحسینشان کرده ام. لازم نیست تا درباره اهمیت و صدای موسیقایی ریک در پینک فلوید در دهه های 60 و 70 اغراق کنم. مایه‌های جذاب جز، مدولاسیون‌ها و صداهای آشنایی که در Us and Them و Great Gig in the Sky می‌شنویم به آنها خاصیتی فوق‌‌العاده انسانی می‌داد و عظمت این کارها در تمامی آثار گروهی چهار نفره ما در آن زمان، همیشه حضور داشت. گوش ریچارد برای توالی‌های هارمونیک پایه و اساس کار ما بود. بسیار خوشحالم که در Live8 فرصتی برایم فراهم شد تا با او، دیوید و نیک برای آخرین بار همراه شوم. ای کاش که باز هم این گونه می‌شد...

EW: اهمیت ریچارد در پینک فلوید چقدر بود؟

Nick: واقعیت این است که مثل هر گروه دیگری، نمی‌توان دقیقا مشخص کرد که هر کس چه کاری به عهده دارد. اما اگر ریچارد نبود، پینک فلوید هم نبود. بعد از همه دعواهای راجر و دیوید بر سر اینکه سهم هر کدام در گروه چقدر است، اکنون می‌توان احساس کرد که شاید ریچارد فراموش شده است. زیرا صدای پینک فلوید چیزی بیش از گیتار و بیس و دارامز است. ریچارد بود که همه اینها را به هم متصل می‌کرد.

EW: این حرف درست است، مخصوصا در سال‌های اولیه که گروه به دنبال ماجراجویی در موسیقی بود.

Nick: بله، ریچارد سبک به خصوصی داشت. او مثل من، یا حتی بیشتر از من، هیچ نگرانی از بابت تمپو و سرعت آهنگ نداشت تا جایی که حتی قطعات بدون ریتم می‌ساختیم و به نظرم این کار در 1967 نوآوری محسوب می‌شد.

EW: خاطره‌ای خاص از ریچارد دارید که دوست داشته باشید بگویید؟

Nick: باید بگویم بسیاری از خاطرات ما به پول ربط پیدا می کند. مثلا از روز اولی که راجر را دیدیم من ماشینم را به او قرض نمی دادم و ریچارد هم به او سیگار نمی داد. در چهل سال بعد هم همین کار را ادامه دادیم!

EW: و راجر هم از همان موقع با شما دعوا می کرد؟

Nick: بله خب، معلوم است! البته فکر کنم بعدها بی خیال این قضیه شد!

EW: یادتان می‌آید اولین بار کی ریک را دیدید؟

Nick: سال 1962 بود، چون ما با هم معماری میخواندیم. شبیه معمارها بود اما هیچ علاقه ای به معماری نداشت. اگر درست یادم بیاید، بعد از چند ماه معماری را رها کرد و به کالج موسیقی رفت، جایی که از همان ابتدا باید می رفت.

EW: آن زمان‌ها ریچارد چطور آدمی بود؟

Nick: مثل همین الان. البته آدم‌هایی را که از نزدیک می‌شناسی هیچ وقت در نظرت تغییر نمی کنند. مثلا راجر از همان 1962 شخصیت دوستانه‌ای نداشت و الان هم اصلا تغییر نکرده فقط موهایش کمی جوگندمی شده است! ریچار از همان اول آرام بود و همیشه همین طور باقی ماند.

EW: به علاوه او آهنگ‌های زیادی برای پینک فلوید ساخت.

Nick: بله قطعه Us & Them تماما کار ریک است. وضعیت او تا حدودی شبیه جورج هریسون بود. آدم فراموش می کند که به اینها کمتر از آنچه لایقش بودند توجه میشد.

EW: به هر حال به شما تسلیت می‌گوییم و متاسفیم که در چنین زمانی مزاحم شما شدیم.

ترجمه این آهنگ به فارسی شاید چیزی غیر عادی به نظر بیاید شاید بعضی کلمات را فقط خود واترز معنی و مفهوم آنرا می داند و بس ولی در کل سعی شده ترجمه خوبی از آب در بیاید.
در قسمت آخر نیز راجر واترز یک ناو را شبیه سازی می کند که قصد حمله به یک دکل نفتی را دارد که به زیبایی در کنسرت IN THE FLESH نمایش داده شد و حتی خود راجر هم برای آن پانتومیم اجرا کرد.

این آهنگ آرامش بخش ترین آهنگ این مجموعه است.
موسیقی که روی صدای خواننده به زیبایی هر چه تمام تر می نشیند.گیتار این آهنگ با دیوید گیلمور و گیتار باس طبق معمول با واترز و کیبورد و درامز هم با رایت و میسون بود در ضمن فراموش نشود که این آهنگ ساخته گیلمور واترز و رایت می باشد.
بر سر نام این آهنگ هم اختلافاتی بوجود آمد از آنجا که واترز این نام را یعنی تنفس را در آلبوم THE BODY استفاده کرده بود گروه نتوانست از این نام استفاده کند بنا براین به تنفس در هوا تغییر پیدا کرد این آهنگ در ابتدا به عنوان بخش های تکمیلی کنسرت به کار میرفت ولی الان می بینیم که در کنسرت LIVE8 اولین آهنگ است و همچنین در کنسرت REMEMBER THAT NIGHT اولین آهنگ کنسرت به شمار می رود و این دلیلی جز آرامش بخش بودن و لایت بودن این آهنگ ندارد.

از مارس 1973 که این آهنگ متولد شد 35 سال می گذرد و هنوز هم عاشقان پینک فلوید عاشقانه این آهنگ را دوست دارند نه فقط این آهنگ بلکه کل پینک فلوید را, من خودم بر خلاف همه که اولین آهنگ پینک فلویدیشون آجری بر دیوار بود اما من این آهنگ اولین آهنگ پینک فلویدیم بود آلبوم نیمه تاریک ماه هم کم کم به تاریخ می پیوندد کم کم هیچ اثری از آن باقی نمیماند و نسل بعد از ما غرق در آهنگ های رپ و هیپ هاپ خواهد شد و از موسیقی غنی پینک فلوید بی بهره خواهد بود...

بدرخش ای الماس خوش تراش. این آهنگ در دو پارت 1 و 2 ضبط شد که مرکز ثقل این آلبوم است.

این قطعه که بدوا با الهام از تم گیتار مالیخولیایی گیلمور به وجود آمد یکی از بهترین کیبورد نوازی های رایت را نیز به نمایش گذاشت که دیک پری با ساکسیفونش کیفیت آهنگ را دو چندان میکند.شعر نیز به فضای اندوهبار موسیقی دامن می زند و بی شک درباره سید برت عضو سابق گروه است.

در جریان میکس نهایی آهنگ شخصی تنومند و تقریبا تاس به دیدن گروه در استودیو آمد.ابتدا کسی او را نشناخت.فکر کردند که او یکی از مهندسین EMI است. تا اینکه بالاخره متوجه ماجرا شدند بله او سید برت بود. همچنان که گروه مرتبا نوار را به عقب بر میگرداندند و میکوشیدند بهترین میکس را ارائه دهند سید برت معصومانه گفت:((چرا خودتون رو اینقدر اذیت می کنید ؟ همین خوبه!))

ضبط ترانه با مشکلات متعددی همراه بود به ترتیبی که 3 بار این آهنگ ضبط شد بترتیبی که اول گروه به این نتیجه رسید که نسخه اولی اصلا خوب نیست بنا براین ضبط دوم را شروع کردند. زمانی که کار را به نیمه رسانیدند ناگهان دریافتند که متاسفانه یک نفر ندانسته اکو را برای دو تا از آهنگ ها روشن کرده و آنها را غیر قابل استفاده کرده تا اینکه این کار باعث شد برای سومین بار ضبط آغاز شود.

آهنگ با پس زمينه کی برد و تک نوازی يه کی برد ديگه شروع ميشه. توی Pulse،‌ پس زمينه رو کارين اجرا می کنه و تک نوازی رو رايت. از اين جا به بعده که يک تک نوازی خيره کننده، استثنايی، بی نظير‌ و فوق العاده دلنشين از گيلمور (با پس زمينه کی برد)‌ داريم که هر چی درباره اش بگم کم گفتم. اين تک نوازی به حدی دلنشينه که روح آدم رو تسخير می کنه و انسان رو به يه دنيای ديگه می بره و بدون شک يکی از به يادماندنی ترين کارهای گيلموره. بعد از اين که اين تک نوازی کم کم به تم اصلی آهنگ نزديک ميشه،‌ درامز هم به آهنگ اضافه ميشه و سولو کم کم حالت افسرده و دلگيرکننده ای پيدا می کنه. اين حالت اندوهناکی آهنگ با کی برد تشديد ميشه. بعد از سولوی ۴ دقيقه ای نسخه Pulse (که در نسخه اصلی آهنگ بيشتر از اينه)، سولوی کی برد بسيار زيبايی از رايت هستش. اين سولو توی بقيه نسخه ها بسيار ضعيفه،‌ اما توی نسخه Pulse دست کمی از کار گيلمور نداره و حتی حدس می زنم که نوشتن سولوی جديد کی برد برای اين قسمت کار خود گيلمور باشه. بعد از سولوی کی برد،‌ توی نسخه اصلی آلبوم باز هم تک نوازی گيتار رو داريم که توی Pulse حذف شده. بعد از اين ها گيلمور شروع به خوندن می کنه (توی نسخه اصلی،‌ واترز و گيلمور به تناوب و با هم ترانه رو می خونن،‌ توی کنسرت های پينک بعد از واترز، گيلمور خواننده اصلی آهنگه و توی In The Flesh واترز به تنهايی آهنگ رو می خونه

این ترانه کار 3 عضو گروه یعنی واترز گیلمور و رایت بود که پای ثابت همه کنسرت ها است و یکی از بهترین اجرا های آنها بر میگردد به سال 1994 و 21 اکتبر آن سال که کنسرت پالس اجرا شد.

کليپ آهنگ‌:

هنگام طلوع خورشيده که پسر بچه ای به سمت جنگلی انبوه ميره. وقتی به جنگل رسيد،‌ محو تماشای درخت ها ميشه و حتی يک خرس عروسکی که روی زمينه رو هم با پا می اندازه اون ور. وقتی بزرگتر شد،‌ به دری می رسه که پشتش هيچی نيست، ولی دو تا سگ نگهبانش هستن. خوراکی هايی رو که داره به سگ ميده تا بتونه از در رد شه. از در که رد شد،‌ می بينيم به يه سرزمين رويايی رسيده. يک نفر ديگه هم در کنارش هست که به شدت خوشحالی می کنه. درهای اين قصر رو باز می کنه و يه نفر رو می بينه که بهش خوشآمد ميگه و يه کلاه ايمنی بهش ميده. کلاه رو روی سرش ميذاره. راهنماييش می کنن و به جلوتر میره. دختری جلوتر دور خودش می چرخه،‌ و سقف گنبدی شکل قصر هم از نگاه دختر داره می چرخه. تصوير به حالت کالئيدوسکوپی درمياد، و دختران و پسرانی رو می بينيم که در حالی که به پسر نگاه می کنن، دارن مواد مصرف می کنن. جلوتر،‌ دو جوان دارن حباب می سازن و به پسر هم اشاره می کنن که بياد و بهشون بپيونده که پسر قبول نمی کنه. اما اين جا همه دارن حباب درست می کنن. پسر جلوتر به يک استخر می رسه و ناگهان برمی گرده و اون طرف استخر،‌ دختران و پسرانی رو می بينه که نقابشون رو از روی صورتشون بر می دارن. يکی از اون پسرها به ساعتش نگاه می کنه و سرش رو تکون ميده. نقاب هايی که دست اون هاست دوچهره است. پسرها و دخترها به پسر اشاره می کنن که از استخر رد شه و به اون ها ملحق بشه. پسر خودش رو به درون آب می اندازه، و کلاهش از سرش می افته و پايين و پايين تر ميره... پايين تر کلاه های زياد ديگه ای رو می بينيم که دارن پايين ميرن.

پسری داره توی دريا شنا می کنه،‌ و نگاهش به آسمون می افته، جايی که بادکنک ها دارن به سمت بالا ميرن. پسر به يه اسکله می رسه، روی اسکله افراد زيادی منتظرش هستن و بهش خوش آمد و تبريک ميگن. پسر به سمت ديگه اسکله ميره که تبديل به تخته دايو يک استخر ميشه. به استخر نگاه می کنه که سطحش رو مواد سفيدرنگی کاملا پوشوندن. توی آب شيرجه ميره و اون جا يک نفر ديگه از زير آب بيرون مياد. با هم دعوا می کنن و پسر به زير آب ميره. ضمن سقوط آزادش، از ميله های مخصوص درست کردن حباب،‌ يک شيشه که اين عبارت روشه:‌ مرا بنوشيد!، حلقه سفيد در قسمت سياه اون سمبل معروف چينی ها (يين يانگ) و سرسره ای مارپيچی می گذره و کف يه استخر می خوره زمين. اين استخر آب نداره و در عوضش کفش پر از آشغاله. پسر جاروی کنارش رو بر می داره و با نارضايتی کف استخر رو تميز می کنه. در نهايت می بينيم که خورشيد داره غروب می کنه.

تفسیر این ویدیو کلیپ:

اين که کليپ با طلوع خورشيد شروع ميشه، نشانگر اينه که فردی استعدادهای هنری خودش رو کشف کرده، و در ابتدای راه موفقيت و شهرت قرار داره. تا اين که وارد دستگاه بسيار کثيف هنر ميشه،‌ جايی که اون رو قصر خودش می دونه،‌ اون جا به وسوسه چند نفر خودش رو توی استخر می اندازه،‌ و کلاهش رو ـ‌ که با چراغی که داشت راه رو بهش نشون می داد ـ‌ از دست ميده. اما با پريدن توی استخر به اون سمتش نمی رسه، بلکه به شهرت و افتخاری زودگذر می رسه‌،‌ و هنگامی که همه طرفدارانش تنهاش گذاشتن، دست به کاری خودسرانه می زنه و دوباره توی استخر شيرجه ميره. اما اين بار بدون هماهنگی با اون افراد بوده، پس يه نفر مياد و خيلی راحت سر اون رو زير آب می کنه. پسر هم بعد از مدتی، با وضع موجود کنار مياد و از هنرمندی به کارگری می رسه که اين جا غروب هنر پسره.

این آهنگ که از آلبوم AMUSED TO DEATH است نقطه قوت این آلبوم می باشد که در آن راجر واترز نقش خوانندگی و نوشتن شعر و آهنگ را بر عهده داشت و نوازندگی آن را به افرادی چون SNOWY WHITE. CARIN,ANDI FAIRWEATHER LOW سپرد.

این آهنگ تقابل بین دو گروه فقیر و ثروتمند را به طور استثنایی بیان کرده است در نمونه هایی میبینیم که ثروتمندان انبارهای روغن دارند یا اقیانوسی از شراب یا ماشین های گران قیمت دارند و هر وقت بخواهند قحطی را به مردم فقیر تحمیل می کنند.

وحتی در بندی از این آهنگ میان دو رود دجله و فرات را توصیف میکند که مکانی برای خوش گذرانی ثروتمندان است.

در آنسوی دیگر کشاورز فقیری را توصیف می کند که هر چه کاشته بود درو کرده تا قرض ناچیزش را بدهد.

آهنگ Each Small Candle يکی از کارهای جديد راجر واترزه که توی تور In The Flesh و چند کنسرت ديگه اجرا شده و توی آلبوم ....Flickering Flame هم اومده. آهنگ زيبايی هم هست.

متن این آهنگ در مورد جنگ بین آلبانی و صربستان می باشد که سرباز صربستانی همه مرز ها را می شکند تا به کودک آلبانی تبار کمک کند.

بند اول رو هالفدان راسموسن برای انجمن عفو بين المللی دانمارک سروده و باقی شعر به نوعی جواب واترز به اين شعره. ترجمه اين ترانه رو برای اولين بار اين جا ميذارم.

راجر واترز در تاریخ ۷ سپتامبر ۱۹۹۲ بعد از ۵ سال کار روی این آلبوم آنرا منتشر کرد که مفهوم این آلبوم ادامه داستان RADIO KAOS می باشد.

عنوان آلبوم برگرفته از کتاب نیل پستمن است به نام"تا سر حد مرگ بیایید خودمان را گرم کنیم"می باشد.

دراین آلبوم اشاراتی به بمباران لیبی توسط امریکا قتل عام میدان تیان من وفجایع تروریستی و کشف گونه های منقرض شده توسط انسان شناسان فضایی هم می شود.

پس از انتشار این آلبوم واترز اعلام کرد در صورتی که ای آلبوم2 میلیون فروش کند آنرا به تور خواهد برد که در نهایت بعد از 10 ماه نیمی از این مقدار هم فروخته نشد زیرا هر کسی شعور فهمیدن AMUSED TO DEATH را ندارد. به قول احمدی نژاد به اندازه بزغاله هم نمی فهمد.
